Evan Maloney made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last five matchups. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Mishawaka Marian is undefeated when Maloney posts two or more runs, but 7-15 otherwise.
In other pitching news, Eric Unwin looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Jack Nunley was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryne O'Hara, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mishawaka was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of New Prairie.
Drew Ginter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Mishawaka saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Deeds, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Mishawaka's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Mishawaka Marian, their record is now 10-15.
Everything went Mishawaka Marian's way against Mishawaka in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Mishawaka Marian made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
