After a string of four wins, the Elkhart Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to Stanton County. Elkhart has struggled against the Trojans recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Elkhart's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Brillhart, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Madyson Brillhart, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Elkhart were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stanton County only posted six assists.
Stanton County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Scott led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Scott is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Hallie Waldron, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Elkhart dropped their record down to 8-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Stanton County, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkhart will take on the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stanton County, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m.
