Baseball Recap: Melrose Has No Trouble Against Dexter

Melrose had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Dexter on Thursday. The Buffaloes blew past the Demons 19-6. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Melrose got a big performance out of Cy Draper, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Draper is becoming a predictor of the Buffaloes' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Windham, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Melrose always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Melrose now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Dexter, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Looking ahead, Melrose will square off against Gateway Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Dexter, they will take on Ruidoso at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
