Pope Francis Prep has gone a perfect 5-0 against Springfield Renaissance recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cardinals will take on Springfield Renaissance at 4:00 p.m. Pope Francis Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 14.7 runs per game this season.
While Pope Francis Prep's win against Belchertown wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Orioles on Wednesday. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Orioles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Taylor Moreau, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Lily Frost was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springfield Renaissance). They put the hurt on Putnam Vo-Tech with a sharp 32-23 victory on Wednesday. Springfield Renaissance might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by eight runs or more this season.
Jocelyn Pena was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. Pena was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.
In other batting news, Madelyn Lunardini was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Leah Charles, who went 3-for-5 with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Springfield Renaissance always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Pope Francis Prep's record now sits at 8-2. As for Springfield Renaissance, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6.
Springfield Renaissance's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pope Francis Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .409. It's a different story for Springfield Renaissance, though, as they've only averaged .212. Will they be able to contain Pope Francis Prep's hitters?
Everything went Pope Francis Prep's way against Springfield Renaissance when the teams last played back in April, as Pope Francis Prep made off with a 22-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
