Basketball Recap: Lakeside Takes a Loss

Lakeside lost against Woodward Academy last Thursday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Lakeside Vikings lost to the Woodward Academy War Eagles at home by a 66-47 margin. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the War Eagles are ranked fourth).

Despite the loss, Lakeside saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sterling Pritchett went 8 of 17 en route to 20 points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Pritchett a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Bennion, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Leading Woodward Academy to victory were Zachary Foster and Jarvis Hayes Jr.. Foster dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards, while Hayes Jr. dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Foster's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Deke Cooper, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Lakeside has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Woodward Academy, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-3.

Lakeside will take on Chamblee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chamblee knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Lakeside likes a good challenge. As for Woodward Academy, they will challenge Tri-Cities at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Tri-Cities has won eight straight at home, while Woodward Academy won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
