Both Apple Valley and Montebello have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Friday at 7:30 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. Montebello will need to watch out since Apple Valley has posted big point totals in its previous three matchups.
Apple Valley can now show off eight landslide victories after its most recent game. It crushed Twentynine Palms last week, winning 75 - 0. With three TDs, junior Xander Witt was a significant factor in the success. Witt supplied the game with one of its most unforgettable moments, a 85-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Witt has also now scored at least one touchdown in the past three consecutive games. Senior Kashan Griffin was in the mix too, providing Apple Valley with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Montebello snuck past Polytechnic with a 28 - 24 victory last week. One of the main ringleaders for Montebello was sophomore Mykael Loera, who rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns. This marked the 3rd consecutive game in which Loera had 100+ rushing yards.
Their wins bumped Montebello to 7-4 and Apple Valley to 11-0. We'll find out which team can carry over its success and which team inevitably falls when Montebello and Apple Valley clash.
