A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Priory Panthers face off against the Los Gatos Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday... Priory knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Los Gatos likes a good challenge.
Priory is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Half Moon Bay just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 77-62 bruising from the Cougars. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the loss, Priory had strong showings from Balazs Nyikos, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, and Jai Gerrodette, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jojo Tejuco, who posted nine points.
Meanwhile, Los Gatos' and Menlo School's contest on Friday was close at halftime, but Los Gatos turned on the heat in the second half with 44 points. Los Gatos was the clear victor by a 68-44 margin over Menlo School. That 24 point margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.
Priory better keep an eye on Scotty Brennan. He was instrumental in Los Gatos' win, going 6 of 10 on his way to 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. Those seven assists gave Brennan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Martin, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.
Los Gatos was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Priory fell to 7-1. As for Los Gatos, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Priory hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 79.8 points per game. However, it's not like Los Gatos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.9 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
