Memorial extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-7. They lost 13-7 to the Lowellville Rockets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 on Monday.
Memorial saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ramani Adams, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Melianys Colon-Rodriguez was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for Lowellville, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Lowellville's side, Mckenna Lewis made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Lewis was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giuliana Alfano 20-11, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gianna Palumbo 4-8, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Memorial will take on Jackson-Milton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lowellville, they will venture away from home to square off against Struthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.3 runs per game on average), something the Rockets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
