The Sparta Spartans's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Chatham Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Sparta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Chatham is ranked sixth).
After a 70-39 finish the last time they played, Sparta and Jefferson Township decided to play a little more cautiously this time around. Sparta fell 30-19 to Jefferson Township on Monday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sparta has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Chatham entered their tilt with Pequannock with 17 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 18. Chatham took down Pequannock 54-37 on Saturday.
Sparta's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Chatham, their victory bumped their record up to 19-1.
Sparta was dealt a bruising 51-24 loss at the hands of Chatham in their previous meeting back in January. Can Sparta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
