Softball Recap: Central Magnet Has No Trouble Against the Webb School

Central Magnet got the win against The Webb School Feet on Wednesday by a conclusive 14-3. Considering Central Magnet has won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Rachel Plondke spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Hayley Mangrum was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Croasdaile, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Central Magnet and bumps their season record up to 8-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for The Webb School, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Central Magnet and The Webb School could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. Central Magnet (ranked 212th) will meet Lawrence County (ranked 70th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, The Webb School will face off against Battle Ground Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (307 vs. 86).
