Two dominant  signal callers in  Caleb Smith and  C J DiBenedetto are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Staples Wreckers will square off against the Southington Blue Knights at 12:30  p.m.  on Sunday. Staples is coming into the  game hot, having won their last ten games.
 Staples had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. In a tight  game that could have gone either way, they made off with a  13-12 victory over Fairfield Prep. Given Staples' advantage  in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings  (they are ranked fifth, while Fairfield Prep is ranked 25th), the result  on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
 Smith was  his usual excellent self, rushing for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more  rushing touchdowns the last four times he's  played.
 Meanwhile, Southington can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent  match  on Tuesday. They blew past Manchester 47-20 on the road.
 Staples has yet to lose a  matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. As for Southington, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
 Staples beat Southington 34-27  when the teams last played  back in September. Will Staples repeat their success,  or does  Southington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
