Maiden has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the East Burke Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though Maiden has not done well against Newton-Conover recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Maiden strolled past Newton-Conover with points to spare, taking the game 57-43. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Maiden did.
Maiden's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Khiara Culliver, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Culliver hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Willow Bass, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, East Burke put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Caldwell 79-19 at home. East Burke has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 20 points or more this season.
Braelyn Stilwell was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 25 points, ten assists, and 11 steals. Stilwell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kara Brinkley, who scored 15 points along with six steals.
Maiden has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for East Burke, they pushed their record up to 16-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Maiden might still be hurting after the 60-40 loss they got from East Burke in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stilwell, who scored 13 points along with nine assists and nine rebounds. Now that Maiden knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
