The Mills Vikings were the 42-36 winner over the Capuchino Mustangs when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Mills fell just short of Capuchino by a score of 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Mills still got an impressive performance from Jaeden Vazquez, who scored 22 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Tanay Rai, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Mills' lineup was just a bit different on Friday as Vazquez got a bit more time on the court (31 vs. his season average of 15.1). Vazquez made the most of the opportunity, scoring 22 points along with three steals. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Capuchino was led to victory by Isaiah Cruz and Dominic Vanden Berghe. Cruz scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Vanden Berghe dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vanden Berghe has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aris Boado, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Mills has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Capuchino, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-13.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Westmoor the next time they take the court. Mills will host Westmoor at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, while Capuchino will head out to face them at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
