The West Campus Warriors will face off against the Burbank Titans at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Campus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Monday just wasn't the day for West Campus' offense. They fell 4-0 to Armijo on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Analisa Mederos was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, West Campus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miriya Yeung, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Burbank was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 40-32 to Valley. Even if the Titans couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
MARICELA MONTES stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in all seven of her plate appearances with nine stolen bases and six runs. The team also got some help courtesy of LILLYROSE JERBAL, who got on base in all seven of her plate appearances with ten stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Burbank's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for West Campus, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-8.
Burbank's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Campus has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Burbank, though, as they've been averaging 11.6 hits. Given West Campus' sizable advantage in that area, the Titans will need to find a way to close that gap.
West Campus took their victory against Burbank when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 15-3 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
