The Legacy Lightning had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Fossil Ridge 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Legacy has posted since November 27, 2023.
Legacy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joey Delescinskis, who scored 20 points along with two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Delescinskis has scored at least a third of Legacy's points. Brandon Domsch was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Fossil Ridge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Hughes, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Clagett, who scored 14 points.
Even though they lost, Fossil Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Legacy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Fossil Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 13-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Legacy will take on the Impalas at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Poudre is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Fossil Ridge, they and the Mustangs will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mountain Range will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the SaberCats are ranked 30th).
