After flying high against the Tempe Buffaloes last Thursday, the Cortez Colts came back down to earth. Cortez lost to Dysart at home by a decisive 74-56 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Cortez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Dysart is ranked 40th).
When it comes to explaining why Cortez lost, one person who can't be blamed is Devan Fowler. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Fowler hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Nygel Lindsey, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Dysart got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nate Morales out in front who scored 20 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kye Brown, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Cortez now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Dysart, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cortez will take on Apache Junction at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Apache Junction is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Dysart, they will be playing at home against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
