The Cotulla Cowboys will take on the Tidehaven Tigers on Saturday. Cotulla is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Cotulla is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They beat Cole by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cowboys.
Christlyn Munoz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cotulla let Sareen Ramirez and Eloyandra Zertuche run wild. Ramirez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Zertuche went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Zertuche has posted since back in February. Erynn Ramirez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Tidehaven beat Poth 8-3 on Friday.
Tidehaven also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kailea Freeman gave up three earned runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Kayleigh Nash was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maleah Galvan, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Tidehaven kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Cotulla's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Tidehaven, their win bumped their record up to 19-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cotulla has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tidehaven struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
