After nine games on the road, Palmyra is heading back home. They will take on the Pawnee City Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Palmyra lost to Elmwood-Murdock on the road by a decisive 44-26 margin. Palmyra has struggled against Elmwood-Murdock recently, as their match on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Loss or not, Palmyra got some senior leadership from Drew Erhart and Christian Jensen. Erhart scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Jensen. scored six points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Jensen grabbed two or more steals.
Meanwhile, Pawnee City came up short against Exeter-Milligan/Friend on Saturday and fell 61-48. That's two games in a row now that Pawnee City has lost by exactly 13 points.
The losing side was boosted by Anthony Kling, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That was a full 37.5% of Pawnee City's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jett Farwell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Palmyra's defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Pawnee City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.
Palmyra barely slipped by Pawnee City in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 64-63. Does Palmyra have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pawnee City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
