Stanton County hasn't had much luck against Minneola recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will head out to face off against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Stanton County didn't have quite enough to beat Southwestern Heights and fell 13-12.
Meanwhile, Minneola waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Thunderbirds.
Levi Lang and Cash Lang made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lang struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cash tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Levi also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Minneola is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise. At the plate, Lang got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Cash went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Levi has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kade Haydock, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those hits were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kit Dilley, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Minneola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skyline only posted an OBP of .409.
Stanton County's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-3. As for Minneola, their record now sits at 4-8.
Stanton County came up short against Minneola in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 12-7. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
