If the Iowa City Little Hawks were feeling good off their 70-48 takedown of the Western Dubuque Bobcats last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Iowa City was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 59-58 to Liberty. Iowa City has struggled against Liberty recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Liberty to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maddoc Coapstick, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Hughes, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Iowa City's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-11. As for Liberty, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Iowa City will take on Linn-Mar at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Linn-Mar presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Iowa City in Iowa (Linn-Mar is ranked 29th, while Iowa City is ranked 171st). As for Liberty, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cedar Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Cedar Falls' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
