Eaton scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Platte Valley, 49-30. At the time, the Broncos were ranked 23rd in the state, while the Reds were 27th.
Eaton extended the longest winning streak in 2A Patriot this week by beating Platte Valley, 49-30. The win marks seventh in a row for the Bill Mondt's team.
Jeff Merritt put up the best numbers through the air as Fort Lupton topped Sterling. He finished with 14 completions for 189 yards and three touchdowns. Merritt's favorite target this week was Jalen Vasquez, who caught five passes for 85 yards.
Austin Ekeler was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 294 yards as the Reds bested Troy Hoffman's team. Britten Abbott also contributed to the rushing game with 24 yards on the ground.
Roice Hanks made the biggest impact on defense this week as Strasburg beat University. The 6-foot-3 junior forced one fumble and grabbed two sacks.
Ekeler was the best wideout in the league this week as Eaton defeated the Broncos. Ekeler racked up four receptions for 151 yards. Trent Sieg helped Eaton's passing attack out by catching three balls for 25 yards.
The Blue Devils' Merritt and Vasquez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Patriot in both passing and receiving yards. Merritt has thrown for 1195 yards this season, while Vasquez, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 34 catches for 599 yards. The Reds' Ekeler leads the league in rushing yards with 1602.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Eaton takes on the Indians. At the moment, the Reds are in first, while Strasburg is in fourth.
Eaton was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Platte Valley. The Reds came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
