The Westlake Charter Explorers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the John Adams Academy Patriots on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 83-76 to the Patriots. Westlake Charter was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as John Adams Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Friday.
Despite the defeat, Westlake Charter had strong showings from Quinones Fleeton, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Matthew Quilatan, who scored 24 points. Another player making a difference was Jarriel Taylor, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
It was another big night for Isaiah McKee, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds for John Adams Academy. That makes it five consecutive games in which McKee has scored at least a third of John Adams Academy's points. Luciano Allen was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six assists and three steals.
Westlake Charter dropped their record down to 8-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for John Adams Academy, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westlake Charter will take on Fortune Early College at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for John Adams Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Kelseyville at 5:30 p.m. Kelseyville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than John Adams Academy in California (Kelseyville is ranked 542nd, while John Adams Academy is ranked 1104th).
