The North Sand Mountain Bison will venture away from home to square off against the Coosa Christian Conquerors on Saturday. North Sand Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, North Sand Mountain turned things around against Collinsville on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Panthers.
Carson Harvey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Levi Burgess, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 matches. Luke Reed also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
North Sand Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Collinsville only posted a batting average of .154.
Meanwhile, Coosa Christian lost 11-2 to Appalachian on Thursday.
Brody Nelson and Angelo Alberghina did some serious damage despite the final result: Nelson scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Alberghina scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Cameron Robertson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Coosa Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for North Sand Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 19-7.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Sand Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Coosa Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .538. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
