The Hunter Wolverines are taking a road trip to square off against the Taylorsville Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hunter has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hunter's tournament run continued when they took on Herriman on Saturday. The Wolverines came up short against the Mustangs, falling 18-1. The loss continues a trend for the Wolverines in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.
Hunter saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was LOIANA IONGI, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Taylorsville made sure to put some runs up on the board against Kearns on Tuesday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Cougars. That looming 19-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.
Aleya Wegner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Megan Sterzer, who fired off three home runs and seven RBI while going 4-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gracie Jaeger, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Taylorsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearns only posted an OBP of .318.
Taylorsville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Hunter, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hunter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Taylorsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hunter might still be hurting after the 22-16 loss they got from Taylorsville in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
