Cedar Ridge hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Timberwolves will look to defend their home field against the Rebels at 4:30 p.m.
Hillcrest hit Cedar Ridge with a four-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Timberwolves fell just short of the Screamin Eagles by a score of 7-6.
Wesley Horton put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Horton was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Ty Ward made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Ward is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Pheonix Ballard was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Highland made easy work of Midland on Friday and carried off a 17-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won six in a row.
Like Cedar Ridge, Highland also got a great game from a two-way player: Owen Hyslip. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Hyslip was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nate Huckabee was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trace Hyslip, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Midland only posted an OBP of .357.
The win got Highland back to even at 1-1. As for Cedar Ridge, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
