The Hawthorne Valley Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They strolled past Doane Stuart with points to spare, taking the game 78-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hawthorne Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Oliver Towe, who scored 32 points. Towe is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Justin Gamiello, who scored 21 points.
Despite the loss, Doane Stuart still got an impressive performance from Julius Brown, who scored 39 points. That was a full 60.9% of Doane Stuart's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of James Calcagno, who scored 16 points.
Hawthorne Valley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Doane Stuart, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hawthorne Valley will square off against Berlin/New Lebanon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Berlin/New Lebanon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Doane Stuart, they will head out on the road to square off against Corinth at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
