Even though the Orangewood Academy Spartans scored an imposing 73 points on Thursday, the Pacifica Christian/Orange County Tritons still came out on top. Pacifica Christian/Orange County had just enough and edged Orangewood Academy out 75-73. Given Pacifica Christian/Orange County's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Orangewood Academy is ranked 326th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pacifica Christian/Orange County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was EJ Spillman, who scored 23 points along with nine assists. That's the first time this season that Spillman posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds.
Pacifica Christian/Orange County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Orangewood Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pacifica Christian/Orange County on the road again on Saturday and play against Fairmont Prep at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. Fairmont Prep will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Orangewood Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Capistrano Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Capistrano Valley Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday.
