Mercy is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Castilleja a six-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Mercy Bears will be playing at home against the Castilleja Gators at 4:00 p.m. Mercy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Mercy turned things around against El Camino on Monday. They put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 15-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bears considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Isabele Reburiano made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, McKenna Fua and Aveline Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Fua got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs, while Anderson went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Fua has posted since back in March. Kathleen Graupera was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Mercy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Castilleja fell victim to South San Francisco and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 15-0.
Castilleja's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Mercy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.
Everything went Mercy's way against Castilleja when the teams last played back in April, as Mercy made off with a 19-5 win. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
