Montrose is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Durango is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Montrose Red Hawks will host the Durango Demons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Tuesday, Montrose got the win against Montezuma-Cortez by a conclusive 49-25. The Red Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Mayce Oberg continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 of 16 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in March of 2024. Lilly Nelson was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.
Montrose smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Durango took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging a 48-18 win over Grand Junction Central. Given the Demons' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Warriors are ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Montrose better keep an eye on Tyler Trujillo. She was instrumental in Durango's win, going 5 for 11 on her way to 13 points. Trujillo continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Fitzpatrick, who posted seven points.
Durango's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Montrose, their win bumped their record up to 14-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Montrose has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28 boards per game. However, it's not like Durango struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Montrose beat Durango 35-23 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Montrose repeat their success, or does Durango have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
