Eagle is 9-1 against Meridian since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eagle has three straight wins, Meridian has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Eagle beats Meridian with six runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out Kuna 6-4.
Caleb Zawadzki was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Stephen Egan tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
Zawadzki wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Palfreyman, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Eagle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Meridian and Centennial meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Warriors fell 7-2 to the Patriots.
Caleb Boydston made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Eagle, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Everything went Eagle's way against Meridian when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Eagle made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
