Heritage is 8-2 against Lakeside since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Heritage Patriots will be staying on the road to face off against the Lakeside Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Heritage came up short against Paloma Valley and fell 72-65.
Despite the defeat, Heritage got a solid performance out of Aaron Contreras, who scored 27 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Viray, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Lakeside fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Canyon Springs on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 57-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Lakeside has suffered yet this season.
Maurice Turner put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Knudson, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and five assists.
Heritage bumped their record down to 8-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Lakeside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Heritage have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 19.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lakeside struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 33.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Heritage strolled past Lakeside in their previous meeting on January 3rd by a score of 88-73. The rematch might be a little tougher for Heritage since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
