Springfield is 1-9 against French Settlement since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Springfield Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the French Settlement Lions at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Springfield scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They breezed by Independence on the road to the tune of 82-44. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Springfield as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.
Rowen Harris was a one-man wrecking crew for Springfield as he scored 22 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harris has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chase Burches, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, French Settlement came tearing into Monday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 56-53 win over Pope John Paul II. Given French Settlement's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Pope John Paul II is ranked 136th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Springfield's win ended a 16-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-18. As for French Settlement, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 23 games, which provided a nice bump to their 28-3 record this season.
Springfield suffered a grim 71-49 defeat to French Settlement in their previous meeting back in January. Can Springfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
