The Jersey Panthers were the 42-35 winner over the Civic Memorial Eagles when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Jersey took a 54-39 bruising from Civic Memorial on Friday. Jersey found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 21 to 3 on offense.
Jersey lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shane Lamer, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Brunaugh, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Civic Memorial's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Parker Parnell, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Parnell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Adam Ogden was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Jersey's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Civic Memorial, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12.
Jersey will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Edwardsville at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th. Edwardsville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Jersey in Illinois (Edwardsville is ranked 67th, while Jersey is ranked 384th). As for Civic Memorial, they will square off against Hillsboro at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
