Softball Recap: Sebastian River Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Viera, Sebastian River was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 13-8 win over the Central Cobras. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-1 back in February.

Kiera Carow and Abigail Bowie-Whitsett made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Carow struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Bowie-Whitsett tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. At bat, Carow got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Bowie-Whitsett scored a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That home run was Carow's first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rily Biggers, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Makayla Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Sebastian River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 9-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Sebastian River's record is now 11-8. As for Central, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sebastian River will face off against Vero Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Indians will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Central, they will square off against Jensen Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
