The Dixie County Bears will challenge the Bell Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Dixie County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Dixie County is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since March 12, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Saint Francis Catholic, falling 7-1. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gray Wampler was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bell, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 14-10 win over Countryside Christian on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Minutemen: they've now won three in a row.
Jayden Lopez made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Bell let Jorge Gonzalez and Rocco Iovinelli run wild. Gonzalez scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Iovinelli scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave Iovinelli a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dean Glass, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-3.
Bell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Bell's record now sits at 11-9. As for Dixie County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dixie County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dixie County beat Bell 5-2 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
