Nardin Academy has gone a perfect 10-0 against Mount Mercy Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Gators will welcome the Magic at 4:00 p.m. Nardin Academy is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Nardin Academy's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bishop Kearney on Wednesday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Gators were not able to get on the board.
Lidia Foglia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Mount Mercy Academy hadn't done well against Nichols recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Magic blew past the Vikings 12-6. Considering the Magic have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Taylor Jahn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Jahn was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mount Mercy Academy let Riley Coughlin and Laila Golda run wild. Coughlin went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Golda went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave Coughlin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie McOwen, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Mount Mercy Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Mount Mercy Academy's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Nardin Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Everything went Nardin Academy's way against Mount Mercy Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Nardin Academy made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Magic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
