Blacklick Valley extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 3-13. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Shade Panthers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 15, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Savannah Woods spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Mackenzie Jacobson and Zoey Richards stepped up to the plate in a big way. Jacobson went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double, while Richards went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
As for Shade, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.
On Shade's side, Payton Maddy made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Maddy was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tori Bowers, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lowen Mincek was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Blacklick Valley has already played their next game (against Conemaugh Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Shade, they will host Turkeyfoot Valley Area at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
