The Empire Ravens's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 69-62 to Tanque Verde. Empire has struggled against Tanque Verde recently, as their game on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Empire lost, one person who can't be blamed is Deshawn Washington. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points along with eight rebounds. Washington hasn't dropped below 15points for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Davidson, who scored 18 points.
It was another big night for Philip Knott, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Tanque Verde. Knott is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Rocco Haggard, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Empire's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Tanque Verde, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Empire won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sabino at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Sabino knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Empire likes a good challenge. As for Tanque Verde, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
