Durant is 1-9 against Newsome since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Durant has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Durant fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Gaither on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by just one run.
Leanne Allen spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
At the plate, Gabrielle Langston made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Newsome and Alonso, and Newsome kept the tradition alive. The Wolves blew past the Ravens 12-1 on Tuesday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Ravens recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Arriana N Williams was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Bella Gulle was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Newsome hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Newsome's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Durant, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
Durant came up short against Newsome in their previous meeting back in March, falling 4-1. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
