Softball Recap: New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Has No Trouble Against Brown County

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly won the last time they faced Brown County and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Vipers put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 8-2 win.

Riley Holloway was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skyler Green, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlie Smtih, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brown County only posted an OBP of .269.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-18. As for Brown County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 16 of their last 20 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-21 record this season.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly has already played their next matchup, a 12-6 win against Nokomis on the 14th. As for Brown County, they will head out on the road to face off against Macomb at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bombers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.68 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
