Northeast Guilford has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Williams Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northeast Guilford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Williams likes a good challenge.
Even though Western Alamance scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Northeast Guilford still came out on top. Northeast Guilford snuck past Western Alamance with a 61-57 victory.
Ashton Timberlake and Dennis Fountain were among the main playmakers for Northeast Guilford as the former scored 16 points along with 4 steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Timberlake has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Aaryn Tate, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Williams struggled with assists on Thursday (Chapel Hill had 700% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Williams suffered a tough 50-28 defeat at the hands of Chapel Hill.
Milton Turner was Williams' leading scorer, having posted seven points. Turner also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Brian Williams took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
The victory got Northeast Guilford back to even at 2-2. As for Williams, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Northeast Guilford have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Williams struggles in that department as they've been even better at 27.5 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
