The St. Peter's Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Fordham Prep Rams at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Peter's will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither St. Peter's nor Archbishop Stepinac made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Crusaders 2-1.
St. Peter's got a great performance from Joe Bello as he didn't allow a single earned run over eight innings pitched. Bello has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marco Aruta was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Salvatore Fragiglio, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Fordham Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Monsignor Farrell on Monday and fell 3-2. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Fordham Prep also got a good showing from Joaquin DelPino, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Jack McKillop made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
St. Peter's pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Fordham Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.
Fordham Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Peter's has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. It's a different story for Fordham Prep, though, as they've only averaged .344. Will they be able to contain St. Peter's hitters?
St. Peter's came out on top in a nail-biter against Fordham Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
