The Narrows Green Waves will head out to challenge the Auburn Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Narrows has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Auburn will arrive with seven straight wins.
Narrows couldn't beat Craig County on Thursday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the second inning. The Green Waves took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rockets.
Braylee Robertson and Hannah Eastburn stepped up to the plate in a big way. Robertson went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Eastburn went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases and one run. Kaycee Duncan was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Auburn made easy work of Grayson County on Wednesday and carried off a 12-2 victory. Considering the Eagles have won 14 matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Skyler Hodges looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hope Wilson was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Johnnie Gaynor, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Auburn pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Narrows, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Narrows has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like Auburn struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Narrows might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Auburn in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Green Waves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
