Fredericksburg Christian hit Collegiate with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars came up short against the Eagles, falling 13-3.
Collegiate saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Barnes, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, St. Catherine's had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Cougars. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Keira Frazier and Kinnady Branch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Frazier pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Branch tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Frazier has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Frazier went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Branch went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double. Those five RBI gave Frazier a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Virginia Dean, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Amelia Green also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
St. Catherine's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive contests.
St. Catherine's record now sits at 14-2. As for Collegiate, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
Collegiate suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to St. Catherine's when the teams last played on Thursday. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
