Basketball Game Preview: Hawkinsville Red Devils vs. Montgomery County Eagles

Hawkinsville hasn't had much luck against Montgomery County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hawkinsville Red Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Montgomery County Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Hawkinsville is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They took a 49-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wilcox County. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 438th, while the Patriots are ranked 123rd).

Despite their defeat, Hawkinsville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Myah Brown, who went 9 of 20 en route to 22 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Those 22 points gave Brown a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyla Slocumb, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 11 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Hawkinsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Montgomery County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They came up short against Citizens Christian Academy, falling 51-26.

Hawkinsville's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Montgomery County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.

Hawkinsville was dealt a bruising 75-16 defeat at the hands of Montgomery County when the teams last played back in December of 2021. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hawkinsville was down 37-7.
