Baseball Game Preview: Cortez Colts vs. Combs Coyotes

Cortez hasn't had much luck against Combs recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cortez Colts will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Combs Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. Cortez has given up an average of 14 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Last Thursday, Cortez came up short against Goldwater and fell 13-8. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Julian Cabrera made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Kolby Lopez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Combs' offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marcos de Niza on Tuesday. The Coyotes haven't had much luck with the Padres recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Combs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angel Rubio, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Having lost for the first time this season, Combs fell to 1-1-1. As for Cortez, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cortez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Combs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
