On Friday, The Jackson-Reed Tigers faced the Woodson Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Jackson-Reed was the victim of a rough 40-15 defeat at the hands of Woodson. Jackson-Reed just can't catch a break and has now endured five losses in a row.
Woodson found their leader in underclassman William Simmons, who rushed for 235 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Dameon Simms got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Jackson-Reed's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 8.8 points per game. As for Woodson, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.
Jackson-Reed will be playing at home against Roosevelt at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Roosevelt is ranked 14th, while Jackson-Reed is ranked 17th). As for Woodson, they will head out on the road to face off against Ballou at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
