Given the Pam Pack's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Panthers are ranked 413th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Washington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chaise Smith, who posted 20 points and five assists. Smith's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Javon Williams, who put up 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They enjoyed a cozy 72-57 victory over the Chargers.
SouthWest Edgecombe's win came from a few key players Washington will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zy Thigpen, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 21 points and eight assists. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Bridgers, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.
Washington pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.4 points per game. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Smith and Thigpen. Smith has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 21.2 points and 6 assists. For his part, Thigpen has averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 steals, and 4.6 assists on 55.4% shooting.
