The Cerro Gordo/Bement Broncos's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They breezed by Heritage at home to the tune of 52-23. Given Cerro Gordo/Bement's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Heritage is ranked 689th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cerro Gordo/Bement can attribute much of their success to Haylei Simpson, who scored 14 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Skye Tieman, who scored five points along with six steals.
Cerro Gordo/Bement's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Heritage, they bumped their record down to 2-20 with that loss, which was their 21st straight on the road dating back to last season.
Cerro Gordo/Bement will face off against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Monday. As for Heritage, they will be playing at home against Okaw Valley at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
