Boardman has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Howland Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Boardman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Boardman came up short against the Raiders and fell 60-50. While losing is never fun, Boardman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while the Raiders are ranked 178th).
The losing side was boosted by Nico Holzschuh, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Mayhew, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Howland beat the Falcons 49-40 on Tuesday.
It was another big night for Alex Henry, who scored 17 points along with five assists and two steals. John Perry was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Boardman's loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Howland, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Boardman have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 20.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Howland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Boardman came up short against the Tigers in their previous matchup back in January, falling 52-42. Can Boardman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
